Magic of the Prairies by Wanda Slawik
Artist Bio : I was born in Warsaw, Poland, a city with vibrant culture and complex history. I received art education there and came to Canada as a young refugee in aftermath of political strife in Europe. Arriving in Winnipeg, I was immediately facilitated by the diversity of people and the richness of the cultural tapestry of my new home.
Here I have raised my family and forged my career in the architecture field. I participate in the city growth, being part of the team who work over significant project including William Glesby Centre, in Portage la Prairie, Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. shopping mall, schools, hospitals and others public building. This offer me, better understanding of the place I live. Through my art, I embrace our complex live and cultural streams, that merge into the great river of the city.
Artist Statement: We are living in a world where speed and instant communication shape our way of relating to each other. This leads to the dangers of alienation, conflict and human suffering. My mission is to bring you the beauty inherent in the moment; to open your eyes to the brilliant and diverse of our lives. Through my art, I connect with the rich visual and spiritual mosaic that is the city of Winnipeg, and the province of Manitoba. I embrace our complex lives and many cultural streams that merge into the great river of the city and forever enriched by new arrivals
