Doc Walker Weathervane.jpg

Country legends Doc Walker release their new album, Weathervane. The first single from the new record, "Heart of the Heartland" pays homage to small town pride across the country.

Produced by Gavin Brown and Dave Wasyliw, and written by Chris Thorsteinson, Dave Wasyliw, Todd Clark, Gavin Slate, the song was inspired by hometown pride, fond memories of youth and continuing to find new inspiration in one's roots, in this case, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and Winnipeg, which has long been home for bandmates Dave Wasyliw and Chris Thorsteinson.

"Heart of the Heartland is about all of the lives that were lived, and all of the memories that were created in a now dying town. One man's connection to the broken concrete and dilapidated structures that harbour the ghosts of his entire childhood, and his unshakable hometown pride," says bandmate Dave Wasyliw." In short, Weathervane is the record we've always wanted to make. We don't set out in a specific direction when we start writing for an album. We write, and write, and re-write. Much like a weathervane, it's almost as if we'll lick our finger, and hold it to the wind to see if we are on the right track."

"Weathervane to me is a reflection of the amazingly crazy life I've lived. I am one of those guys that never left his home town, yet had the opportunity to travel the world. I've seen Canada from coast to coast many times throughout the years staring out the windows of vans, old buses, new buses, trains and planes, and every time I'm shocked by the beauty of our country, but my heart has always been in the Prairies," says lead singer, Chris Thorsteinson.

With over 20 Top 10 singles in total, Doc Walker is one of the most recognizedCanadian country acts of the past two decades. The group has received multipleCanadian Country Music Awards, including Fans' Choice, Group or Duo of theYear, CMT Video of the Year, Single of the Year, and Country Music Program orSpecial of the Year. In addition, Doc Walker has been nominated for several JUNOAwards for Country Album of the Year, including a win in 2009 for the album Beautiful Life.

May 20, 2020

There’s no denying the massive changes our world has undergone in the last few months. The pandemic is an unprecedented situation, and there is much uncertainty surrounding our community as we continue to adapt to our new normal.

May 29, 2020 was the date set for our major fundraising event, the Fusion Gala, 20s Garden Party. As a result of the government restrictions of events and gatherings we are not able to proceed with the gala. Our facility has been closed to the public and will remain closed until sometime in the future. Some of our staff have returned, based on the government’s gradual multi-step approach to re-opening. However, we miss seeing and hearing the rich sound of laughter, music and creativity from artists and community members as they attend our many classes, performances, exhibits

We have an idea for a unique fundraiser to replace the Fusion Gala. We know that many businesses included the sponsorship of a table at our gala in their budget and we hope that you will consider supporting Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment. As a local artist who has donated paintings to the Gala in the past, I am offering to paint a quick impressionistic painting of your business. You can choose the size of the painting, an 18 x 24 painting is $650, equivalent to purchasing a table of eight, a 14 x 18 painting is $400, equivalent to purchasing half of a table, and a 12 x 12 painting is $100, equivalent to purchasing one ticket.

We hope to have the paintings done fairly soon so that we can install then in an exhibit in one of our galleries. You will be invited to see the exhibit in person by appointment. I am including an example of a 10 minute painting of our facility.

As a business leader and partner we want you to know that 100% of your support for this fundraiser will stay in our community and will be put towards funding our arts programs. Your support ensures that Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment will continue to provide a wide range of affordable programming and events for children and adults in the visual, expressive and performing arts in our community.

Please call 204-239-6029 or email us at pdac@mts.net.

Grease.jpg

Cruise on down to the Glesby for the Sing-a-Long sensation! Grease is the word.

“I got chills… They’re mul-ti-ply-in’…”

Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song?

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off?

Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those quiffs and let your inhibitions go for an evening where you are the stars. And remember GREASE is the word…

The evening begins with your Sing-a-Long Grease host leading a vocal warm-up and hand-jive lesson before showing you how to use your free fun pack during the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions.

Then just sit back and watch Danny & Sandy and the gang, while singing (and dancing) along to the lyrics on the screen.

It couldn’t be easier… or more fun! The first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES! Fancy dress is strongly encouraged and full audience participation essential.

All ages are very welcome (must be 18+ for bar service), costumes are highly encouraged (because costume contest!), and audience participation is absolutely essential!

Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $10

Buy tickets at the Glesby Theatre box office, at 204‑239‑4848, or at www.eventbrite.ca.
